Slowly but surely, people are realizing the perils of “fast fashion”. If you walk through a shopping mall, the majority of what you see is “fast fashion” — trends that will come and go in a month. Sequins, frills, ruffles, chokers, plastics, cheap fabrics, and cheap jewelry.
These “fashion” items are made in foreign factories, by people who often have no other choice but to work for pennies. The quality of these pieces are poor because of the quick turnaround to meet the demands of flashy “trends”. That cheap bracelet and blouse will fall apart after 3 wears, perpetuating the cycle of consumerism and throw-away culture.
Jewelry is an especially worthwhile investment for any person of style. Cheap jewelry contains metals that irritate the skin, and the shoddy craftsmanship is apparent when fake jewels and stones fall out of your rings, earrings, etc.
Investing in “slow” fashion, pieces created by designers and artists, is not only a wise financial choice (the pieces will last much longer), but a moral one. Wouldn’t you rather support a small business, who takes pride in their work and products? Or a large corporation where all they care about is quarterly profits and trapping people in a vicious fashion cycle?
Each Rosa Kilgore piece is made in Arizona, where I live and where my inspiration originates. I take pride in using high quality materials like American turquoise, recycled sterling silver, semi-precious stones, ancient bronze, and freshwater pearls. As a metalsmith and silversmith, each piece has my own fingerprints all over it – this is personal to me.
My pieces will not fall apart after a few wearings, they are made to last as long as you care for them. I make one-of-kind pieces of art that will withstand passing “trends”. I don’t believe in buying something trendy, only to toss it away soon after when the craze passes. True style is timeless — all you need is high-quality, unique pieces and confidence.
