Kairos – The Fall 2018 Collection from Rosa Kilgore Jewelry
The fall equinox has arrived, and so has my latest collection, Kairos. Just like the arrival of autumn reminds us of the rhythmic march of time (chronos), the Greek word kairos refers to a special moment of opportunity. That perfect moment rolls around and you can say or do the perfect thing, when the energy shifts and you can feel the electric moment of potential.
The equinox is somewhat of an opportunity as well – it marks a transitional point in time. Here in the northern hemisphere, summer is ending, and autumn is beginning. Day and night are completely equal, and there’s a moment of balance. We’re reflecting on the past, as well as looking forward to what the future has in store.
I adore equinoxes (I try to release my collections in conjunction with them). This season, the concepts of chronos vs kairos were especially fascinating to me, and have been my main source of inspiration as I’ve worked on the collection. The hoops are not only flattering (what’s better than hoop earrings!), but symbolic of cycles and wholeness.
Handmade in my Flagstaff studio, this collection is made with recycled sterling silver, pearls, green onyx, and ancient bronze.
My long pearl necklace with a hand-pressed silver hoop can be worn short or long. Pair it with a simple blouse and jeans or dress up an evening outfit.
The hoop earrings in my Kairos collection add a flash of silver and are dripping with lovely faceted green onyx accents. The rich jewel tones will be perfect as we enter the cooler months.
Making this collection was such a great experience, and I’m excited to share it with you. On this equinox, I’m grateful for all 2018 has brought and looking forward to what’s to come!
Cheers to fall, and here’s hoping you seize the kairos moments in your life.
Well, we’re officially in the dog days of summer. Traditionally from July 3rd – August 11th, it’s name comes from Greek and Roman astrologers who saw the rising star Sirius, the “Dog star”, join the sun in the sky. It was believed that this period brings bad luck, storms, monsoons, and lethargy.
While I’m not sure of the accuracy of this old belief, I can certainly understand summertime blues. When the days are long and slow, and the sweltering heat never seem to end, it’s easy to feel low energy.
Despite all the superstition, I love all shades of summertime, especially blues. There is something so cool about denim and indigo in the sunshine. These warm July days are longing for some balance!
Embrace the chiller side of summer with some of my cool toned, blue-accented jewelry.
My Storm earrings on blue onyx are elegant, simple, and perfect for all day wear. Versatile enough to wear with your favorite pair of blue jeans or a little blue dress.
Rain Drop Lariat Necklace on Blue Onyx
There’s something so captivating about summer storms. This Lariat necklace with blue onyx from my MONSOON collection hangs on a lovely strand of little pearls with faceted blue onyx at the drop point. This necklace has a 2 inch extender, so it can be worn with a variety of necklines.
The dog days of summer will be over soon! Let’s be thankful for another trip around this hot, hot sun. I’ll be avoiding the AZ sun as much as I can and seeking shade, preferably indoor and air-conditioned!
Here’s hoping any summer blues you encounter are temporary and fashion forward.

Every year, Americans reflect on and remember those who made the most honorable sacrifice. Our troops are a point of pride, and I want to thank those Heroes who represented and defended our country.
My Grandfather, Leonard Kilgore, fought in the Navy in World War II. He thankfully returned home safely, while many of his fellow soldiers did not– they and all combat Heroes should be remembered and honored.
Versatile jewelry allows you to change your look without taking up extra space in your suitcase.
When traveling, the less you have to carry the better, right? Versatile jewelry that can be worn in different ways allows you to change your look without taking up extra space in your suitcase. Necklaces that can be worn short or long, earrings that take you from day to night, these are ‘must have’ items for every fashionista to travel with.
This triple strand ancient bronze hoop necklace goes beautifully with black and shades of brown and gold, making it a travel must-have. It can be worn with only one strand around your neck for a longer look, as pictured on the left. The pop of color from the sleeping beauty turquoise brings out shades of blue, and adds some intrigue.
Travel tip: avoid swimming and showering in your jewelry! Your pieces will tarnish and become duller faster. Lounging around in jewelry and swimwear on dry land is A-OK though.
Reach for pieces that can be worn long or short when packing for your journey. My longer pearl necklaces give you the freedom to play around with length.
Longer necklaces look great with v-necks, open necklines, and swimwear.
As a denim fanatic who often has to look professional, I want my jewelry to be as versatile as possible. I love keeping things easy and simple, especially when travelling!
